Maxability

Flightways Centre, Maxability, Grahame Park Estate, NW9 5UX

Maxability is a charity delivering inclusive classes for adults of all abilities who want to learn how to work with clay. Established in 2009 as a charity focusing on delivering arts classes for adults with disabilities, Maxability has since expanded to offer classes to adults of all abilities with a focus on inclusivity and the physical and mental benefits of undertaking ceramics. Classes range from complete 9 week beginners courses to ongoing intermediate/advanced classes and private 1:1 or small group one off classes covering handbuilding and/or wheel throwing (so there’s something for everyone).

At present I am teaching the Saturday morning beginners course and Saturday afternoon Intermediate course. The next set of courses will be beginning in January 2023.

If you are interested in making ceramics at Maxability, either with myself or any of the talented team of teachers, or if you want to support the great work the charity undertakes please see: https://www.maxability.org.uk or contact our studio manager Suzanne: suzanne@maxability.org.uk

University of the Arts London – Camberwell College of Art

Established in 1898 Camberwell College of Art has an incredible history of ceramic education; I feel extraordinarily privileged to be working with UAL to train the next generation of talented artists and designers. At UAL I am a specialist ceramics technician; students undertaking any BA or MA course at Camberwell have access to the ceramic workshop, so I get to help students understand how to make everything from large ceramic instillations to minute ceramic jewellery, from precise mould making to lose throwing. Undertaking a BA or an MA is a serious commitment and will involve multiple years of dedicated focused study and thus is not a decision to be taken lightly. But if you are serious about developing as an artist or designer it may be the path for you. If you are interested in undertaking a course at Camberwell College of Art please see: https://www.arts.ac.uk/colleges/camberwell-college-of-arts for details of the courses and feel free to get in touch if you have any questions about ceramics at Camberwell.

Custom/Private Classes

Having been teaching since 2015 I’ve worked with students ranging from complete beginners up to postgraduate on every element of ceramics from handbuilding to glaze chemistry, 3D printing to production throwing, conceptual development to business. At present custom/private classes can either take place at Maxability’s studio, online or at your own studio. Please get in touch with an idea of your experience and what you are hoping to learn and we will see if there’s any way I can help.
